Dutton’s Delivery Update 🐾
It’s been a long day. Dutton kicked things off around 10 this morning after an early, drawn-out labor. We had the usual ups and downs; one puppy came backwards, another with meconium in the bag, and then we hit a stall. That resting phase is normal (though it panics a lot of people), and the truth is: if mom’s not pushing, she’s not in distress. Slowly but surely, we kept moving forward.
With a little calcium boost and a lot of one-on-one support, Dutton powered through. Honestly, I was with her 95% of the day, cheering her on from the sidelines and watching her on the camera when I finally had to step back. She did amazing.
Tonight we’re at seven puppies:
-
2 silver males
-
1 silver female
-
1 charcoal male
-
3 charcoal females (including one tiny little fighter at just 8 oz 💕).
We’re hoping for one more before the night is over.
These first 72 hours are always the most critical. So if I go quiet, it’s not because I’ve forgotten you, it’s because I’m literally moving, doing, and checking around the clock.
For those wondering, yes we have another girl due in about four weeks who may also bring us silvers. And remember, families often change their preferences for color or gender once they see the puppies in person. Silver is a dilute of chocolate, charcoal a dilute of black so depending on the light, coats can look like shades of tan and gray.
Attached is a raw video I filmed around 11am that I’m only just now getting the chance to share. I’ll give more details tomorrow. For now, I’m headed back out to the barn to cheer on our girl and see if she’s ready for her last hoorah.
💛 Here’s to strong mamas and sleepy newborn squeaks.
